BAE Systems temporary building
BAE Systems provides advanced technology in aerospace and security solutions in over 40 countries. In their facility in Broughton, Cheshire, an Airbus wing assembly jig was to be accurately positioned and installed in a climate controlled enclosure.
RDG provided bespoke designs for a temporary building with double skin cladding, constructed by adapting standard scaffolding components to enable the cladding system to be attached to both the inner and outer faces. The void between the inner and outer skin provided a layer of still air insulation, creating a robust barrier against external weather conditions.
The temporary building was constructed within the confines of another building that was being constructed. Maintaining access and safety was paramount. The roof of the temporary building was designed in aluminium lattice frames covered with a lightweight steel cladding, which provided a safe working environment for the installation of the jig whilst the main structure was being constructed.
