Crossrail, Farringdon Station
As the Elizabeth line opens in 2018 Farringdon Station is set to be one of the busiest in the UK, connecting outer London counties with the City and 3 of London’s 5 airports. RDG provided concept design and checks for a 7.0T ton lifting frame and supporting ramp to position escalator truss sections into place in the west ticket hall.
The lifting frame was designed to support 2 runway beams at 3.5t each using RMD SuperSlim soldiers. Due to the confined space within the station it was not possible to use cranes or forklifts. The truss sections were mounted onto casters and lifted via the lifting frame onto an aluminium track positioned down the length of the support ramp. Winching equipment was used to lower the sections down the escalator shaft.
