Tianjin Harbour Grain Terminal

The port of Tianjin is the largest port in Northern China, covering approximately 121 square kilometres of land surface.  RDG were commissioned to provide concept and detail designs for the transportation of 1,000,000 metric tonnes of grain from cargo to storage.

A conveyor system was constructed, supported along a series of gantry structures made from local Chinese steel.  The system was elevated 120m above ground allowing gravity to funnel the grain into storage silos for processing.  As well as providing support to the conveyor, the gantries also provided access for personnel and any maintenance works.   The design had to take into account any static and dynamic loading encountered during the conveying process and extreme weather conditions, including high winds and earthquakes.
